Amy Street Thirroul was originally called Surfers Parade.
The reason for this name change is that Surfers Parade originally began from the end of McCauley Street and only extended east to the beach. The first addresses extend east towards the beach from 2 Surfers Parade, which is at the end of McCauley Street, rather than at the Seabreeze Place end of Surfers Parade.
The new name “Amy Street” is the name of a ship that wrecked in 1898 on the rocks at the southern end of Thirroul Beach. There’s a monument in the centre of Bath Street roundabout at Thirroul Beach.
